Earlier this evening my boyfriend and I had sexual intercourse without a condom. He ejaculated inside of me. I have been on the Ortho Evra patch for about two weeks. I started the patch on the day of my period and have since then switched it once on "Patch Change Day". The Ortha Evra website says that if I started the patch on the first day of my period, then I do not need to use a backup method of contraception.

However, I am still very very nervous that I put myself at risk of becoming pregnant. Do I have to be on the patch for my entire first cycle before it is effective? Or am I going to be fine? Please hurry with your response so I can purchase emergency contraception if needed!

Whether or not you choose to take EC will be a personal choice. A person can be covered that early, but we generally suggest waiting a full cycle just to be on the safe side (because some women it takes longer to adjust).

I would say you do not need to take EC. That is my opinion. You should be fine since you are on birth control and you started the patch the first day of your period, like the site said. Just make sure you finish this cycle, and you should be fine. In the future, if using one method (the patch) still troubles you, I would recommend using a condom, too.

whatwhatwhatrudoing1122: While your information is helpful, this area of the boards is for volunteer and staff responses only. See you around the rest of the boards! [Smile]
