What are the signs of miscarriage?? I know this might be a little far out to ask, but I started my period today and I woke up about an hour ago in some pretty bad pain. I haven't had period pain like this. I had some very bad cramping and some awful back aches... for the past several days I've been cramping up, but I didn't have a period. That lead me to think I was pregnant but I sort of doubted it too because the last time I had sex, we used a condom. I checked the condom to make sure it didn't break, etc. by filling it with water. He also pulled out before he ejaculated. We had sex about two weeks ago. But I just found some very white, different kind of substance on my pad... It was thick and about the size of my thumbnail...It wouldn't break apart like the blood would either...It was attached to a dark blood clot... I have never seen or had anything like that from a period. And I was wondering if this could be a very early miscarrige, or if this white stuff could be fetal tissue. Please help.

Also I stopped taking my birth control pills because I had missed about three. I stopped taking them about four days ago and I started my period (or at least I hope its a period) today. That's usual for me to take that long to start my period on my placebo week too.

Corvus, are you referring to this risk? http://www.scarleteen.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/27/t/024488/p/1.html#000000

If so, and if you two did continue to use condoms for all sexual contact, you did not have a significant pregnancy risk to start with.

Since you stopped taking your pills, it's possible that your period just looks a little different because your body is adjusting to being without the hormones.

If the bleeding gets very heavy, however, you might think about calling your gynecologist, just to be on the safe side.

my periods have always been heavy, and if this is any different I'll plan on an appointment...but it just freaked me out when I noticed some completely different material mixed with my period... I know it's outlandish to consider something like this but I can't help but worry...and yes that was the post i was referring to...

Okay.

Understand that a period is never just blood. It's uterine tissue mixed in with blood. So, clumps or bits that look more solid or aren't blood-colored aren't anything unusual. It's entirely possible that you're just paying more attention this month because you're worried about a pregnancy risk.
