I'm on Yasmin birth control. Sometimes I leave my pills in my purse in a shaded area of my car when I go to work. It gets about 85 during the day, and in the 60s at night. Can I get pregnant? I'm freaking out. I've been having sex this whole time and I'm panicked.

If you haven't been leaving a window cracked or parking in exclusively shaded areas, your pills *may* have gotten hot enough to compromise their effectiveness. That definitely isn't a sure thing, though I'd try to find another place to keep them during the day.

OMG. I'm going to get pregnant. We don't use any other methods except withdrawal. I keep them in my car because I often don't go home after work and I can't bring my things inside.

I don't know what to do now. [Frown] I had no idea this would be an issue.

Sorry for continous posting (I know it's against guidelines). I've called multiple pharmacies and have gotten so many mixed responses. Some say I'm fine, others say I'm not. I'm so UGH.

The thing is, that no one is going to be able to tell you for sure. We know that temperature CAN affect the pill, but there is no way for us to tell whether it did, in your particular situation. We just know that it's possible.

Even if the temperature DID affect your pills, that doesn't render them completely useless. They would still be effective, just possibly a little less so.

So what you just want to do is keep your pills in a different place from now on.

Also, one last question, if I may. I have talked to my doc about getting on the shot as of today so I don't have to worry anymore [Smile] .

I know you're not a chemical scientist, but would this lower my effectiveness to typical use? Or maybe between 90-95%? I'm planning on using condoms for the rest of the month to be safe, also because I threw up my pill last night because of the flu. [Frown]

Thanks!

There's really no way of telling how much this changed your effectiveness.

If you're really worried, you can take a pregnancy test now and then again in a week or two to make sure you haven't gotten pregnant during this cycle.

Do you have another place to keep the pills?

Also, if you'd like options other than the pill, we're also happy to give you information about other methods such as the patch or the ring.

The shot is mostly fool proof, but you also won't get regular periods and there are different side effects from the pill that you'll want to investigate before making the switch.

(Just checking in: are you using two different accounts here at the boards? If you are, we need you to choose only one to use, ideally the older account. Per our policies, users need to have only one handle here. Thanks.)

And yet you posted from both today?

I know I'm being totally paranoid right now, but I am so nauseous today. There's no way that preg symptoms can show up in a week right?

I was prescribed codeine yesterday so I think this might be the reason.

Whatever you do, you need to just use one handle from now on. So pick, tell us, and we'll delete the other one (we want to make sure you have access to your first one, though).

One week is definitely too soon for pregnancy symptoms. Codeine very frequently causes nausea, so I'd bet that's the reason.

Turns out, I got my period on time. [Smile]

For everyone out there, DON'T LEAVE YOUR PILLS IN THE CAR. Bad news. Thanks for your time.
