Hi guys, I have yet another question. My girlfriend has gotten on birth control called Yaz, whose parent company is apparently Yasmine. Her period was two weeks late because of stress, and when she started her period, her doctor told to start taking the pill, she is protected right when she starts taking it, according to her doctor. So far, the only mess up in her pill taking she had was when she took it about 3 hours late. We have been having sex with a condom, but once, we did without one. I pulled out before I came. I know that's not a method of birth control, but I did it anyways. My question is, if she has been taking it on time all the time except that one time, never missed any, and we usually use a condom, can I just assume that there's pretty much no risk of a pregnancy. I am a lot more calm about it now that she got on birth control, but still, I have some lingering doubts. What do you think?

Thanks a lot!! [Cool]

At what point in the pack did you have unprocted sex? It is true that some pill manufactureres say that you can rely on the pill from the first day on, or after the first week. At ST, however, we recommend waiting one full month before relying on the birth control fully as every body reacts to the hormones differently and there's no predicting when it starts working.

So, I'd say, if this happened towards the end of her first pack, you're likely fine. If it happened towards the very beginning, you may have had a small risk.

However, beyond the first month, bcp is very safe. As long as it's taken on time, at the same time every day and no pills are late or missed ('late' is more than three hours late and 'missed' is once it's 12 hours late), you're fine.

I think she is almost to the end of the pack, the last week in it are just placebo pills, so pretty much almost close to the end of it. So it's okay to do it? We usually use condoms, just not that time. I also pulled out before I came, so that might have helped a little bit...

If she's in the placebo pills now, you two are probably fine. Once she starts her new pack, you can have intercourse without a condom if you wish. (If you haven't been screened and clear for STD's, though, I'd suggest continued use of condoms)

okay, thanks. I think she is starting her placebos either today or tomorrow. We have both been screened for STDs and we have been dating for almost 8 months now. Thanks for your help!
