On the last days of my period, my flow is really light so I'll usually use tampons for 6-8 hours and when I go to sleep, its usually between 6-10 hours of keeping a tampon in. I would use light-days panti-liners but they make me itchy (I've tried many brands, all have the same reaction). Well, here's the thing. It was the last days of my period and I suddenly woke up with body aches, a terible headache and as the day progressed, so did my fever(up to 102). I got scared, thinking that it might be TSS, but I just took some Motrin every few hours and by the next day, I was feeling better. Was this just a 24-hour virus type deal? Or is that how TSS works, you only get it for a day?
it probably had nothing to do with your tampon if it came and went in 24 hours. TSS is more of a thing where in under 24 hours, you get extremely ill, and if you don't seek treatment quickly, you could die. it is not something that does away on its own. http://www.scarleteen.com/forum/Forum28/HTML/000392.html
read that for a li'l bit more.
