is there any way you can get a cold sore to go away quicker?

What I'd suggest is that you talk to your dcotor. There are good medications now which can greatly reduce oral and genital Herpes outbreaks.

In the meantime, you can try using an L-lysine supplement or lysine cream. That helps some people, as might some aloe vera. But bear in mind that as far as sexual activity, kissing and the like goes, it's unsafe for a partner to be exposed o an active or developing sore.
