I am glad to hear you have such an honest and open relationship! Then it should also be no biggie to bring up your concerns around STIs. The thing is that he can't be 100% certain of anything if he has neve been tested. However, we're not saying that he does have an STI, or that he is wilfully deceiving you. There are lots of misconceptions around STIs out there, and finding the facts can be hard. So, it should be fine for you to bring up to him that you feel uncomfortale, that you would like the both of you to be proactive about taking charge of your reproductive health, and then suggest you two get tested together.

The only one who can determine the source of your redness and itching is a doctor. If it's already lessening after just a day, you might have been looking at some irritation from shaving and should be fine. However, if it's not completely gone withing another day or so, I would still suggest a visit to the doctor. And for the future, you'll want to avoid self-medicating: if you go for the wrong treatment, you may wind up making things worse rather than better.

As for STIs, most of them are actually easily treatable if you catch them early enough. That is part of why getting tested regularly is so important. You can get an overview over all STIs here:

Well, everything else is treatable so long as a person actually gets tested often to identify an infection and then can get treatment. As well, getting any STI can create health complications, some short-term, some long term. So, prevention really is key.

If both of you aren't getting regularly tested AND also aren't practicing safer sex (like using barriers and getting tested)? Then this really isn't something to figure is no big whoop or to blow off, because that's pretty much exactly how people wind up with STIs in the first place, you know?
