The past few times my boyfriend and I have had sex, I have bled an extreme amount. I am on my period, but during the day, my flow is not heavy at all and it only seems to increase when we have sex. I did have a vaginal tear about a month ago from having sex, but it's healed now and I don't think that the blood would be coming from that small of an area. I'm also on a birth control pill. Thank you so much for answering. I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with me.

Have you had sex during your period before? I ask, because it is actually not uncommon for sexual activity and the contractions of orgasm to temporarily increase blood flow. So, intercourse causing your bleed to become a bit heavier shouldn't be a cause for worry.

No I haven't before this week. That makes a lot of sense though. It just worried my because of the amount of blood that came out. I think I will just wait until my period is done and test things out. If I'm still having a problem should I go to a doctor? Thanks so much!

If you continue to experience bleeding after intercourse even after your period is over, then yes, it is a good idea to check in with your doctor.

But an increase in flow after intercourse during your period is not a cause for concern.

Glad we've been of help!
