I was wondering if you could clear something up for me.
I had the copper IUD put in a few days ago. Seems okay, few cramps but nothing serious.
When i had it inserted, the doctor told me to come back in 6 weeks and she would check it was still in place and show me how to check it myself for the future. She told me not to worry about checking it myself until i've had my appointment in 6 weeks. This is what concerns me.
I am still on the bcp to finish the packet but after this (in about two weeks), i am worried about having sex. Could i get pregnant in the next six weeks if my coil starts slipping out of place?
Is the IUD only effective if positioned correctly? I assume i'd know if it actually came out but how can i know if its slipped and could i get pregnant if it does?
Thank you

The IUD is one of the most effective and foolproof methods of contraception there is. If it doesn't expel itself -- as in, you don't find it in your underpants, having worked its way out of your uterus -- you can rest assured it will be at it's highest effectiveness.

Double-checking placement is more about making sure it's comfortable for you and that it will stay as it was placed and not expel.
