Hi everyone,

I had a question about this thread-

"You can NOT safely use the pill at the same time you're using the implant. Is that what you meant? If so, and that is really what your doctor said, your doctor is seriously mistaken and needs to review the prescribing information for the implant.

Using more than one hormonal method at once would pose serious health risks."

- I thought that if a woman is having troubling irregular bleeding on a long-acting method such as implant or depot provera, that is sometimes treated with short courses (few months) of estrogen by itself or of the combined pill. I know there isn't long-term data or data about young people but I also wasn't aware of serious risks?

This is my source-

(Thanks and hope this question isn't too specific for ST, if so let me know..)

"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare."

Using more than one hormonal method at a time will always pose extra health risks, and this is a particular concern with teen women or those over 35.

You're correct, sometimes some doctors do choose to do that, but it's something one would want to avoid if possible. If it's very important to someone to have regular periods, in general, the sounder tactic would be for that person not to choose BC methods that may or do suppress periods or will likely make bleeding irregular.
