Hello!

I have a question-in the middle of the night last night I started spotting and continue to do so (it is very light). The problem is I have been on the pill for four years, and haven't spotted since the first few cycles of my pill. Is this normal? Can it mean that I'm pregnant (implantation spotting)? It would be a very low chance-I take my pill within an hour every day and am never late.

Thanks!

Breakthrough bleeding can happen at any time. Sometimes it's because we change things in our life -diet, sleeping pattern, starting exercise, more stress, etc- and sometimes it's for no real reason.

It's unlikely that it's implantation bleeding. For one thing, your chances of pregnancy are incredibly slim if you take the pill as directed (less than 1% failure rate with perfect use) and for another, implantation bleeding itself is very rare (only happens in about one third of all pregnancies).

If you remain concerned, however, you can always go ahead and take a pregnancy test for your peace of mind. [Smile]
