i have been suffering from repeat yeast infections. ihave also been having some weird problems with my joints. i heard that these are sometimes the symptoms of hiv, and i have had unprotected sex a ew years ago with someone i didnt know alot about, do you think that these symptoms show i am at risk?? i have an apt with my doctor tomorrow too. thanks for any help

Every sexually active person should be getting tested for STDs and HIV on semi-annual basis. If you haven't been tested, it's high time you did.
Granted, it's much more likely the problems you are having are unrelated to HIV. But get tested anyway. Severe thrushes are a sign of advanced-HIV infection, but then you'd also have other problems like wasting, diarrhea, colds you can't shake off, etc.
The deal is, letting HIV go too long without some kind of intervention (meds!!!) can drastically shorten your lifespan. People who detect their HIV quickly can get on the right medications and lead otherwise healthy and normal lives for year and years indefinitely now. But the people who don't test regularly and wind up harboring HIV for years before finding out are the ones who die fairly quickly.
