My boyfriend recently learned that he has herpes. He has herpes simplex I which gives him cold sores on occasion. If he were to pass this on to me during oral sex, could it result in genital sores or would they be more likely to appear around my mouth like they do around his?

Also, is there any way to get tested even if sores aren't present?

If your boyfriend were to give you oral sex during a break-out, then yes, you would end up with sores on your genitals. This is why using a dental dam or saran wrap for cunnilingus is so important.

Check out STI File: Herpes Simplex for more info.
