Hi Scarleteen,
I don't want to be so annoying but I have something else I want to know. I know implantation bleeding can happen but I want to know if it can just happen once like a little bit or if it has to happen a few times. How long after implantation can it occur? I want to know this because of a discussion I had in health class today and I was really confused. I read some threads on implantation bleeding but I wasn't quite clear on it so can you please help me out? Thanks in advance!!!

Now imagine a tiny little ball of cells floating down the oviduct. it's been three days since an unprotected sexual encounter allowed a little sperm fuse with an egg, and now the resulting mass of cells (a morula at this point) approaches the dorsal (spine-side) wall of the uterus. it lands, and it starts digging its way into the uterine wall.

This digging causes some bleeding because the uterine wall is thick with capillaries (imagine how much bleeding could result from a tiny thing almost too small to see with the naked eye). This is implantation bleeding, and it's no more than few drops. It only lasts a day, two at most. After that, the vessels heal up and the implanted conceptus begins growth and development.
