Hey, I have another question. I have a tampon in now, and I've only been using them for the past couple periods. It seems like whenever I have one in and I'm sitting down, it's uncomfortable, kind of like when you have your contact lens in your eye wrong, ya know? But when I'm standing or moving around I can't feel it. In fact, I went ice skating tonight and there were no problems. Do I have it inserted wrong, or is it just something I need to get used to?

It's not you, it's your tampon. Some women find certain tampons are just too long to be comfortable. So, try a shorter one, like o.b., or a sea sponge (my method of choice). Use the search function for more info.

You just buy one, either one intended for menstrual use, or one intended for makeup, boil it for about a minute, and trim to a size that feels comfortable. Rinse it in warm water until it's saturated and soft, squeeze it out, and insert up next to the cervix. You can keep it in maybe four hours before removing it, rinsing and squeezing it out, and reinserting. It's best to remove it at night, and soak it in a solution of about a cup of water to a couple tablespoons of vinegar. A sponge will last three to six months. I've never had one leak, and find them one of the cheapest and most comfortable methods there is.

And when you do this, take my advice and keep a window open. Vinegar is great stuff, but can be rather smelly. So when you're soaking the sponge in the solution, you can leave a window open and try to keep the area well-ventilated. This way you won't "pull a BruinDan" and nearly pass out from fumes when walking into the bathroom in the morning.
