i started taking ortho tri cyclen about a week and a half ago, and right after i started the second phase of the active pills my body flipped out and i started spotting - but its more like a regular period. is this normal? does this mean im nont protected from pregnancy, or am i still ok?

Well, since this is your first month on the pill, you'll want to be backing up with condoms anyway, as it takes the body a while to get used to the hormones.
But spotting is a perfectly common side-effect of starting hormonal birth control.
