Hello all [Smile] ,

I have some questions about side effects of the pill.

I have finished taking 2 pill packs and I'm currently in the first week of my third pack. When I started the placebo week of my second pack, I got a BAD headache, felt nauseous and had cramping about 2 days later (Though it was another day till I started bleeding). The headache and nausea hasn't gone away since! So, I've been feeling this cruddy for almost 2 weeks now, and it really sucks! No amount of acetaminophen/ibuprofen seems to be able to quash it.

I know it can take a few months for your body to adjust to the hormones, but is it normal to start getting very noticeable side effects 2 months in?

Should I talk to the doctor about a different brand or should I wait it out a little longer?

For intercourse, my boyfriend and I use condoms as a back up to my pills. After we went together to get full STI tests (which came back clear) we DID have sex once without a condom the same week I was on those placebos, but he also withdrew before ejaculating (and that was the only time we've gone without condoms). Given that I've been on the pill over 2 months, it isn't likely that I'm feeling like this cause I'm pregnant, right? :S

Also, thank you, cause I find the Scarleteen website very helpful! [Smile]

Hey Parapluie: Welcome to Scarleteen!

Every women will react a little bit differently to the hormones in oral contraceptives. It's always a good idea to keepyour doctor up to date with side effects you're having, especially when the side effects are lasting this long. The best two people to make a decision on what to do based on those side effects though are you and the doctor - so it may be a good idea to just call the office and let them know this has been happening, then the doctor can make an informed decision on what's the best course to take.

Hi and thank you for your quick response!

I'll be going to the clinic for a refill of my prescription soon (probably tomorrow actually!), I'll bring it up with a doctor then (I get my birth control low-cost from a community health clinic, so I don't have a regular doctor).

Thank you again. [Smile]
