I was just reading kittengodess' post at http://www.scarleteen.com/forum/Forum21/HTML/000507.html and I suddenly had a question...

HAS anyone heard about or tried the new "heating" lubricants? I don't know the exact details of them either... so if any of you *AMAZING* sexperts could shed some light ont he topic.. I would be interested!

Thanks Again,

Silly Girl

the heat activated lubricants are laced with anesthetic. they're heat-activated because they need to melt INSIDE the condom to allow the anesthetic to act on the penis while not coming in contact with the woman.

why would anyone put anesthetic on during sex? because by numbing the penis, he can delay ejaculation. is this necessarily a good idea? it doesn't sound all that great to me.

some lubes are supposed to heat up when rubbed on. i have not found a product of this nature that wasn't oil-based. not condom safe at all! nice for back rubs, though. you didn't want a product that heats up in your vagina though, really. that'd feel like burning.

i hope this covers what you were asking about heat and lube. for regular sexual activity, use normal water-based lube (KY, Astroglide)

You can either be part of the problem or part of the solution, but in the end, being part of the problem is much more fun.

After I made that post yesterday, I did a bit of research on the product. Apparently the product is latex/condom safe, it contains: Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Acacia Honey Type O, and Methylparaben.

I don't personally know anyone who has tried this product, so all the opinions I have are based on reading the customer reviews at several sites like drugstore.com. Most of the reviews for this product were not terribly flattering. A majority of the people did not seem pleased with it at all. The main complaint seemed to be that there was no "warm" sensation unless one was completely not aroused when one applied the lube and that it became VERY sticky quickly. Most reviewers complained about the runny/oily texture of the product when it came out of the bottle and then found that it dried very quickly into a sticky, gummy mess (one person compared it to dried glue). In other words, they found it pretty much useless as an actual lubricant. The taste also seemed to put people off...they described it as "chemical" or just plain "terrible".

Though I haven't tried it, I'd probably agree with Gummy that this type of product isn't a great idea. The possibility of allergic/bad reaction seems much higher than with regular lube. And people really didn't seem to feel that it worked well as an actual lubricant, so really what's the point?

It just really seems best to stick with lubes that really do lubricate. I'm not comfortable recommending this "warming" stuff based upon what I've read about it, I definately wouldn't recommend the lubes that have anestetic in them (that's just a bad idea all the way around). Flavored lubes are fine...but not for penetrative activities as the sugars involved can cause/encourage infection. So I'm with Gummy, stick to good regular lubes for your best overall value and results (unless of course you're wanting something to pair with your condom or dam for oral sex, in which case flavored lubes are perfectly fine).

Personally, I am a big fan of the warming lubricants, just not necassarily for intercourse. It's great for clitoral stimulation, and in my experience, it's only enhanced the sensation. My boyfriend likes it inside a condom to mimic the warmth of non-condom sex, but I suppose it's up to each person.

I tried the KY warming lube a while ago - I didn't like it as much as normal lube. It isn't as slippery, so I didn't think it worked as well. But thanks for the tip about back-rubs... I also found that the warming didn't last very long, so it wasn't super fun. I could see how using it inside a condom might be better. I've never encountered one with an anasthetic in it though - sounds like it would be kind of bad for you... I've tried one that had hemp oils in it that was really nice, but it was about twice as expensive as drug-store kinds, so I personally will stick to those. I do like using flavoured lubes for blowjobs, though - it tastes good and adds slipperiness to everything, and I have a hard time making lots of saliva, so it's good that way too!!! Hope this is useful! Cheers!
