A book I suggest reading (ecspecially if you were ever called a slut) is, well, 'Slut!: growing up female with a bad reputation' by Leora Tanenbaum. It's basically about how and why girls are labeled sluts by their peers, AND the ever present sexual double standard that it's ok for boys to have pre-marital sex but it's not for girls.
Excerp from the back: "Girls may be called "sluts" for any number of reasons, including being outsiders, early developers, victims of rape, targets of others' revenge. Often the label has nothing to do with sex-- the girls simply do not fit in."
I love this book very much and has made me feel not so alone when it comes to this type of thing I recomend this one heavily.
