Anybody seen this one?
My partner and I saw the French comedy The Closet last night and I laughed until I almost cried. It's about Pignon, (considered dull by himself and everyone around him) who finds out he's about to lose his job. His new neighbor comes up with a scheme...pretend to be gay and his company, afraid of a discrimination lawsuit, will keep him on. They kick things off by sending some doctored photos (Pignon's head pasted into to a racy scene from a gay bar) anonymously to his boss. The boss' secretaries fax them all over the company, and suddenly everyone sees him in a new light...he's not a dull little wimpy guy, he's a discreet gay man just coming out of the closet!
Pignon's newfound notoriety (and others' assumptions about his sexuality) lead to a variety of situations, a few of which are sad but most of which are hugely funny. I won't say anything more, other than that from a Scarleteen perspective I appreciated the safe sex aspects of the film.
It's rated R, but if you're of age and get a chance I highly recommend it.
