So I started the pill and, under the guidance of my doctor, I didn't wait till my period started, I just began taking it right away. My boyfriend and I have been talking about sex a lot and my last period had been recently before my appointment so I didn't want to risk waiting that long. We haven't had sex yet, but I'm on the placebo pills in my pack and I just wanted to make sure it's not abnormal that I haven't gotten my period yet.
Thanks.

I'm a little perplexed about what you're asking, but just in case it isn't clear, when you start taking the pill mid-cycle it is really important to use a backup method of contraception for the WHOLE first pill pack, okay?

When you're taking the pill, you'll eventually have a withdrawal bleed around the time of the placebo pills. Sometimes, that takes a few cycles to work out, and it may take longer for your body to sync up when you start the pill at a time other than the first day of your period or the first Sunday after your period.

Yes, we haven't had sex yet but we plan to use condoms. Okay, so I will eventually get my period, it just might not be right when the placebo pills are right away?

Thanks so much [Smile]

That's right. Generally, it takes about 1 to 3 months for a woman's body to adjust to her pills. Our cycles can be a bit crazy in this time-- there may be a little spotting when you don't expect it, you may start your withdrawal bleed late in the placebo week, etc.

Either way, as long as you don't have any pregnancy risks and you are taking your pills on time as directed, you will eventually be getting your withdrawal bleeds at the right time, during placebo week. It just may take a couple months to line up right, as Heather mentioned.
