Could be in part because sex, just like exercice, releases a chemical in your body called endorphins which can contribute to your feeling of happiness and well being.

Also the oxytocin hormone is released... some people call it the cuddle chemical... the same thing that helps you form a bond with a newborn... after being that intimate with someone it just gives you the warm and fuzzies and can make you feel on top of the world
