As I live away from home I dont usually get to see my girlfriend loads but the occassional times when we get to spend a few days together she is sometimes on her period, so we dont get to have sex. Is it ok to have sex when someone is on their period if i am wearing protection? Once when she didnt know she was on (or maybe it was just because it came on) and we were having sex there ended up with some blood coming out which wasnt a great experience because I thought it was mine at first, so im really weary about that happening again, but to not being able to have sex (penetrative) just because of her period starting at an awkward time, without knowing if its ok to have sex then is quite frustrating. My main concern is that we are both safe, so its not a major problem if its better to not have sex during her period.

If you're both comfortable with it, it is absolutely fine to have sex during her period. And if you put a towel underneath, it won't be quite so messy.

being on her period does not have to mean no sex. Actually it can be quite flattering for a girl to know that even know she is on her period, you're still attracted to her in that way. Ask her if she is ok with it, if she is , the use of a tampon prior to the intercourse might diminish the amount of blood that you will see... and putting a towel down on the sheets will limit the mess

(Please, please please remember to remove tampons before attempting any sort of penetration: it's very painful and unhealthy to have a tampon inserted with anything else [penis, toy, ect.]. Thanks!)
