me and my bf have been talking about having sex for a long time now (both of us are virgins) and yesterday we decided to try for the first time but he could barely get his penis inside of me. I'm not sure whether it was because my vagina tightened because of nerves or I wasn't wet enough or what? I'm really confused! should we try again, with a water based lube or just stick to other sexual acts instead of intercourse?

Probably was just nerves. Lots and lots of foreplay as well as some addition lubrication will help greatly. Just don't rush it; if it doesn't work out one time, don't assume you're destined to stick with everythin but intercourse. Keep at it, and don't get frustrated.
