Last fall after a large number of publicized suicides among LGBTQ youth and young adults Dan Savage started the "It Gets Better" project; thousands of people from around the world made Youtube videos to youth and young adults saying that their lives WILL get better, even if it doesn't seem like it right now.
It's almost a year later and it's time for us to figure out how to make it better.
Right now. Or, more specifically, next Fall, when school starts up again for most people.
So can we collectively brainstorm?
1. What things would you like to see immediately change in your school or community that would make it safer for young LGBTQ people?
2. What is your school or community already doing well to welcome young LGBTQ people?
3. What was YOUR favorite It Gets Better video? How come what they said impacted you? How could you carry that on to your school or community?
So get talking, folks! Next week we'll start brainstorming some ways to set our ideas down as real, attainable goals!
