I have this friend, whos a lesbian, and i'm totally okay with it. i really dont care. but now i find myself watching what i say. I know this is wrong, no need to scold, but i say stuff like "thats so gay" or "she/he's so gay" and now that i know shes gay its hard to kick the habit of replacing the word stupid with gay. and everytime i say somethings gay she like "oh is it really homosexual" its weird, i love her, shes cool but it dont like having to watch what i say

Maybe you should let her know that you're trying to stop, so she doesn't feel like she has to have a comeback every time. Keep trying, once you kick the habit, you won't even have to think about it.

Well, using 'gay' in a derogatory way is a pretty bad idea anyway -- gay friend or not. It's sort of like saying 'he throws like a girl', or 'eww, that sounds so Black!'. It's offensive to a specific group of people, and thus, it's not a socially okay thing to do. Avoid saying things like that to be a kind and polite person, and because chances are there are a lot more gay people around you than just your friend, and you'll be better off for it.
------------------ Why can't you have your cake and eat it too? Why believe in things that make it tough on you? Why scream and cry when you know it's through? Why fall in love when there's better things to do?

I said not to scold, i know its bad to say that. thank you to the first person who replied, you gave me good advice and didnt say anything about me using the word gay. and it IS sociably acceptable to say it where i'm from. EVERYONE says it, and of course i'll be better off not saying it, i said it was a bad habit, a habit that i'm trying to stop, not a habit that i want to continue.

You also sounded defensive, which is what I picked up on. I apologise for being harsh, but this really is a word you need to be careful with.
