my friend is having a party at a hookah bar in august. by then i'll be 16 weeks along in my pregnancy. i don't plan on smoking any but is second hand smoke from hookah tobacco more/less/just as harmful as regular smoking tobacco? should i not attend?

Sitting in a room full of second hand smoke is NOT good for you or your baby. Period.

I feel the need to back this up, just b/c second hand smoke is just as dangerous as actual smoking. Non-smokers exposed to secondhand smoke can suffer just as many adverse health effects as smokers. And when you sit in a room of second-hand smoke, you are exposing both you and your baby to dozens of cancer-causing chemicals.
So no, don't attend. Why would you want to risk not only your child's health, but your health as well?

Just a niggle in the interest of being factual.
There isn't any information/data that shows that secondhand smoke is JUST as dangerous as smoking oneself. Not even close.
It's still not at all HEALTHY, mind, and yes -- especially in children (from the data so far, which is still in progress, secondhand smoke is now thought to be a big cause of SIDS, and is known to be a huge causal agent in childhood asthma, for instance -- there have are a few thousand cancer cases a year now reported from secondhand smok and other serious illnesses which can stem from secondhand smoke. So, I'd opt, if you go to the party, to just sit outside, or ask the folks at the party to be grownups and to smoke out of doors themselves.

okay, I'm aware of the harmful affects of secondhand smoke and smoking. I just wasn't sure if hookah smoke was the same. It takes place at a hookah bar, so I can't possibly ask them to smoke outside, lol they'll think i'm crazy. So I'll just not attend.
