My period is almost two weeks late. When my period four or five days late, I took a pregnancy test. It came out negative. I took another pregnancy test yesterday. It came out positive. I have never had unprotected sex. The condom has never broken and we've always been extremely safe. Still, there is that 2% window.
But the pregnancy test I took came out positive and aren't those tests more reliable during the 10-14 day window. I've talked to my mom and I'm coming home (I'm a freshman in college) for an official test this weekend.
What are the chances I'm pregnant? As high as I think they are?
False negatives are common enough that we advise a second test if the first is negative. The 10-14 day window is just to allow the HcG hormone to build up in the urine to a detectable level. After build up, the level will remain detectable throughout pregnancy. False positives are much more rare and usually occur if a woman is taking fertility drugs. I suspect that you are pregnant but a blood test from your physician will confirm one way or the other.
