My friend has a 1 year and 8 month son and she still breatfeeds him. Is that normal? Till what age is the norm for people to breastfeed?

The 'norm' is actually pretty pathetic. A lot of women start, but very few continue onto 6 months. Once the child gets to 2 years (the min recommendation from many prominent health organizations), it's almost unheard of.

In short (I could babble on about this forever ), it's completely normal for your friend to still be breastfeeding her 1yr8month old son. She gets a huge thumbs up from this end.

I don't know a lot anbout breastfeeding, just since I've never needed the knowledge myself...

But I did a quick search and came up with breastfeedings reports that state an average age for weaning is actually often past 2 and a half years. Another source also stated the World Health Orginization recomended children be breastfed for at least two years. (Site here)

So I'd say your friend is being completely healthy for the needs to her baby.

The longer you breastfeed the better. It is after all the natural source of nutrition for children.
