When I was a wee little one my mom said i used to get yeast infections rather frequently. In order to get rid of it she used to make me take baths in vinegar. Well vinegar and water. I was just wondering, is my mom crazy or has anyone ever heard of this? Does it really work? Is it just like a natural disinfectant or something? thank ya kindly

Hello, Nope, that's not nuts. Vinegar, an acid, can be used as a home remedy to try to restore the natural balance in the vagina (which is also acidic). Five parts water to one part cider vinegar is usually recommended. Furthermore, you can use organic yogurt in the vagina during yeast infections as another home remedy.
Please note that we recommend going to a doctor if you find you have frequent yeast infections.
Ashy's right on both counts, just to add the "Whys" to her whats. Yeast occurs normaly in the human vagina, it's only a problem if it overgrows. The yeast can get out of hand if the normaly slightly acid ph of the vagina becomes to neutral. This is why the vinegar may have worked. Yogurt may work because the bacteria that turns milk to yogurt is the same one that balances out yeast in the healthy vagina (acidophollis), maintaining that acid ph.
