Hi Maggie,

When you say you're ready for sex, is it something you and a partner are planning to engage in soon? Or is it a more general feeling that, should the chance to be sexually active come along, you'd be ready for it?

Too, you mention you know the risks attached to sex and that you're wondering about the how the physical part works. But the thing is, there are even more elements to consider when thinking about being ready for sex than those two things. Have you taken a look at this article Ready or Not? The Scarleteen Sex Readiness Checklist ? Any thoughts about what it says?
