Missed period

Unread post by cookiecrisp1 »

I am an eighteen year old female who began taking birth control ( Lo Loestrin Fe) on October 17th, 2016. Since then I have taken it at 7:00 pm each day, except for two occasions where I was twenty minutes late. My last period was November 20th, 2016 and shortly after its completion is when I had sex for the first time. About a few weeks ago my boyfriend and I were engaging in
foreplay but did not have sex. The next day I was bleeding quite heavily though it was more like brown discharge than blood and lasted for a few days. I do not think this was my period but rather a response to possible scratches he may have made in my vagina. My period is now over 40 days late (my usual cycle is 30 days but I have been late before). It is to my knowledge that women are supposed to experience their period during the last week of their pill pack, which I have not. Although I am on the pill he still wears a condom and withdraws. We are both each other's first partner and so far I have taken two pregnancy tests which were negative. Is it possible that I may
still be pregnant considering we use three contraceptive methods? Is my missed period a response to my body adjusting to the pill or is the pill failing? I am just wondering what is going on with my body and if I should be worried. Thank you in advance.

Hi Cookiecrisp,

There are lots of reasons why a period could be late. You can read all about those here: M.I.A or, Dude, Where's My Period?

Beyond that, it sounds like engaging in this level of sex is causing you anxiety. Do you feel comfortable talking with your boyfriend about dialing back to a level you're both comfortable with?

I've been experiencing a lot of stress since becoming sexually active so maybe that is also contributing to my period being late. Can pregnancy definitely be ruled out as a possibility?

We will not answer ANY questions about pregnancy fear or anxiety in our direct services from users who are not pregnant or who are not or have not otherwise been directly involved with an actual pregnancy.

Please do not post this kind of question. If you are seeing this text, and your thread is locked, it is because you have posted this kind of question.

We CAN and WILL talk about things like:
• choosing and using a method or methods of contraception for any future sexual activity
• creating your own sexual limits and boundaries based on your needs and/or presenting them to any partners
• making sexual choices that suit your own needs, abilities and limitations, including your own readiness for certain possible risks
• help locating or using emergency contraception if and when you have had a pregnancy risk
• discussing options with a real, existing pregnancy, and help finding and accessing those options, such as abortion services and pre-natal care, or discussing feelings or concerns about a past pregnancy
• help with anxiety like locating mental health services, sound self-help or asking for support from friends or family

Now, you are telling us that you realize you are having more stress and anxiety since you have been sexually active. In order to enjoy sex (before, during and after) is important that we feel comfortable with the choices and the risks we are taking. If you are not feeling really safe with any of this talking to your parter about taking things more slowly is something advisable. If you would like help on how to start this talk and how to set boundaries that feel more comfortable for you is something that we CAN do.

For help dealing with a scare (including what poses a risk and your next steps based on your unique situation), you may use our tool on site built for this purpose: The Pregnancy Panic Companion.
