When you want support through something scary or rough, and help pulling yourself together and getting through, this is the place.
Forum rules
We ask that users looking for general, ongoing emotional support post in this area of the boards, and that you use this space to both ask for, give and receive that support primarily from each other, rather than from our staff and volunteers. As a staff, we simply are often too overextended with all we need to do in running the organization and its services to do that for extended periods of time, and one of our main aims of our community at the boards has always been to facilitate peers to better be there for each other.

Users often report that they have no in-person peers they can talk to or seek support from: we want this to be a space for online peer support and somewhere everyone can get some practice asking for, getting and giving support so that doing it with people in your lives feels more doable.

Please remember that neither staff, volunteers nor your fellow users can provide or replace mental healthcare when that is something you need. Users struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, abuse or physical health issues are strongly encouraged to seek out qualified, in-person help with those issues in addition to peer or staff support.

Almost had anxiety attack just using the restroom. (Not aligned restroom.)

So, last school year, I had to change in the boys bathroom before I went home. (Which I disliked, throughly. Even though my friend offered to scout out the girls and let me go in there. The reason why I had to change was because it was the day we dressed up for the day of the show, which, by the way was Footloose. And, I had wore a dress which I couldn't wear home.) In the middle of changing, some rather hostile guys tried to break the door of the stall down. I was lucky enough the lock just slid over and I was able to push it back to hold them off until my friend got our Drama teacher to tell them off. We never found out who they were... and now that I had to use that same restroom in my lunch period, it came back to me about that.

It's an awful feeling to be reminded of scary or anxious moments: do you have any strategies for coping with anxiety when it happens?

Yeah, just I feel it's really stupid I have to deal with things like that due to impractical policies.

It absolutely is, and I'm so sorry your school isn't supportive. If you're up for it, do you think it might be worth trying to get some of those policies changed?

I have petition that's been printed out for quite some time just for it actually. (Haven't put it forward because some of my friends advised against it.) I've been considering pulling it out and going for it. Arranging meeting for it in my current situation will be difficult to present it to the district. I can link to it if that's fine. Obviously, with sensitive material removed. (Such as the district, any location or identifying info.)

A petition sounds like a good start. If there's any kind of support we can give you around this, let us know!

What do you have as far as educational resources? And, anything to sway any swingers on this issue?

Hi Kittypink,

You could start with this resource. We created for schools, and it includes concrete steps they can take as well as information to counter some common misconceptions: http://www.scarleteen.com/zh-hans/creat ... ge=zh-hans

You could also look at organizations like Trans Student Educational Resource (TSER) to see what tools they have.
