What can I do if I don't want to have sex, but don't want to masturbate, either?

Celibrity asks:

What can I do if I don't want to have sex, but don't want to masturbate, either?

Susie replies:

You could keep yourself busy, exercise vigorously or take some cold showers.

Some people are find getting sexual gratification one way or another. But if you don't want to gratify your libido in the usual ways, then you may want to find a different outlet for your sexual urges. Everyone is entitled to abstain as they please.

So in all seriousness, if you want to abstain, exercising (like playing sports, running, swimming, lifting weights, etc) can help you expend that energy. It's also good for your body. Some people find that hobbies keep them busy enough that sexual frustration doesn't bug them as much. You might want to join some clubs, take some classes for fun, learn a new art (dancing, painting, creative writing, etc.) or do some community service.

And from a physical standpoint, cold showers can knock down an inopportune erection or overwhelming urge pretty quickly. The shock of an abrupt dousing with frigid water will trigger a fight-or-flight response, which will stop sexual arousal in its tracks.

Of course, if you aren't sure why you should be abstaining from masturbation, you might want to check out these articles:

But if you're fine with abstaining and you are sure you don't want to masturbate, that's cool, too. To each their own. For more about abstinence and celibacy, check out Does Abstinence Make the Heart Grow Fonder?
