If I use the pill and he still ejaculates me in, can I get pregnant?

little_brat18 asks:

I am currently starting my second month on birth control. When engaging in sexual intercourse with my boyfriend, we do not use a condom. If my boyfriend was to not pull out and blow inside of me during sex, would the pill still protect me from getting pregnant? Or do guys still have to pull out and blow in order to not get pregnant?

Hollie replies:

Pulling out is NEVER an effective method of birth control, whether you're on the pill or not. It's not effective against pregnancy and it's certainly not effective against sexually transmitted infections.

The whole point of the birth control pill is to avoid pregnancy. It is effective enough (about 92% with typical use) that, if you're comfortable with it, you do not have to use other methods (including pulling out). Many couples choose to use the pill in addition to condoms, though.

Remember that even if you're on the birth control pill, you're not protected against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you and your partner have not both been tested for STIs, and have monogomous for at least six months, you need to be using condoms (in addition to the pill, if that's what you want to do).
