Susie replies:Just wondering, how much do boobs weigh altogether? My boobs have recently grown to 34DD, and I feel like I've gained weight from it. Thanks!
Funny you should ask this question. I asked it too when I grew to wear 36DD, so I decided to find out for myself.
It's not easy to plop your boobs onto a scale. Or maybe it's because I don't have the right kind of scale. I think a hanging balance -- the kind you'd use to weigh fruit might work better than the lab scale I used. Lucky for me, people were amused by my experiment, so they didn't tattle to my professor. Otherwise, I'd generally advise against trying to weight a breast in a group setting. By the way, no, I didn't take my shirt off, and it totally skewed my measurement. The scale wouldn't hold steady, but it sort of read in the neighborhood of 1.4kg (hurrah for SI units!).
As it so happens, I spend a lot of time at the gym, and I lift a lot of free weights. The weight of one of my breasts in my hand feels a little lighter than a 3 pound dumbbell, so I'd estimate my breasts weigh about 5lbs total. They're a bit smaller now 'cause I lost some weight.
Which gets me to the part of your question about you feeling heavier. If your breasts are growing, chances are so is the rest of you. Whether it's because hormones are making you fill out up top and in your hips and rear, or whether it's a generalized weight gain, breasts don't often grow alone. So if you feel a little thicker in places, perhaps you are putting on some padding there (depending on circumstances, this may or may not be a bad thing). Measure the circumferences of your waist, hips, bicep, thigh, and follow them periodically to see if you are growing in certain places.
